Homemade Laundry Soap / Booster Blend

Homemade Laundry Soap / Booster Blend

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large container with a tight lid.

  2. Store in an airtight tub or jar.

  3. Use 2–3 tablespoons per load (less for HE washers, about 1 tbsp, see note below).

Why this works (You can skip any ingredients that you don't want to use)

  • Ariel → gives you the detergent/surfactants.

  • Washing soda + borax → boost cleaning power and help with hard water.

  • Baking soda → deodorizes.

  • OxiClean → attacks stains and brightens.

  • Scent beads → just for fragrance (optional).

⚠️ Note: With both Ariel + OxiClean, this is pretty strong. It is great for towels, kids’ clothes, farm chores, etc. For delicate or dark loads, you might want to cut the OxiClean amount in half if those are your primary laundry items.

How to Adjust if You Use a HE Front Loader

1. Reduce the amount of powder you use.

  • Use 1 tablespoon per regular load.

  • For very dirty loads (towels, farm clothes, sports gear), you can go up to 1.5–2 tablespoons, but don’t dump in more or it may not rinse out fully.

2. Add it directly to the drum.

  • Don’t put it in the detergent drawer — powders + boosters tend to clump in the dispenser and may not dissolve well.

  • Just sprinkle your measured scoop on the clothes inside the drum, before starting the wash.

3. Run with warm/hot water if possible.

  • Washing soda, borax, and OxiClean dissolve best in warm water.

  • If you must use cold, dissolve your scoop in a cup of hot water first, then pour it in with the load.

4. Skip softener if you’re using borax/baking soda.

  • They already soften water. If you like softness, add vinegar to the fabric softener compartment (safe for HE machines).

5. Watch for residue.

  • If clothes start to feel stiff or gray, you’re using too much.

  • Run a monthly hot cycle with vinegar or washing soda to keep your washer fresh and avoid buildup.
